My E-learning LA Homework -Interpersonal

Interpersonal

Conduct an interview with a friend(not from HCI) or family member. Find out his/her opinions about crime and punishment or the necessity to communicate in a relationship. Record the interview or write out the interview transcript.

I interviewed my father and this is what he said:

Crime:

Do something inappropriate, usually wrong to:

Individual eg. Lying to, cheating, slander, abuse, assault and murder

Group eg discrimination abilities or race

Country eg public order

Public property eg damage, theft

Private property eg damage, theft

Companies eg theft, misrepresentation

Punishment

Imposition of something, usually unpleasant in response to wrong doing

Prevention eg educate and encourage correct behaviour

Enforcement eg fines, jail or death

Difficulty lies determining the seriousness of the crime and the effects of it, which dictates the appropriate punishment.

Comparison between Lamb to the Slaughter and The Way up to heaven.

Both stories deal with the idea of "the perfect crime" committed by a woman. But whereas Mrs Maloney's act of striking her husband dead is not premeditated, the twinkle-eyed middle-aged landlady had done same thing twice before and is "at it" again. She is definitely lost her mind whereas Mrs Maloney just seems to have momentarily lost control. However, Mrs Maloney giggles while the policemen are discussing the eventual murder weapon "right under their noses,"revealing the perverse side to her personality. She also keeps her cool directly after the murder, going to the store and getting things for supper, even a desert, "to please" Patrick (and to offer herself an alibi). Her deliberation and calculation are somehow incoherent with her sentimental and romantic nature. This paradox adds to the complexity and "scariness" of the character.

Stories with a Common theme.

Among the 3 stories,"Lamb to the Slaughter", "Male Child" and "Love".I prefer Lamb to the slaughter the most.It captures my attention as :
-It starts off like a normal day for the Maloneys and Mr Maloney just came back from work as a detective.
-Mary Maloney seems delighted that her husband has returned and offers his some food. However, her her husband seems to be giving her the cold shoulder and is on the verge of confessing something to his wife.
-Mary tries to avoid her husband from trying to tell her something. She offers him food and even though he does not want it, she still give it to him.
-After being told about his suggestion for a divorce,Mary keeps her cool and pretends that nothing ever happened.
-Unfortunately,when Mr Maloney was about to go out,she loses her cool and whack her husband to death with a leg of lamb.
-She then covered up her misdeed and reported her husband's death to the police.
-The ending of the story was the most interesting part. She fed the detectives the evidence, the leg of lamb.
-At the end,she giggled when the detective said that the evidence could be right under their noses and got away with killing her husband.
